Strategies for Building Ecosystem Resilience: How Can Organisations and Networks Manage Adverse Events?

Overview

Why are some actors better able to sustain and rebound from adverse events than others? Effective responses and recovery processes are crucial to deal with adversities.

The purpose of this Extension, hosted by ESSEC Business School, is to shed light on what strategies and policies can facilitate resilience in the face of exogenous and systemic challenges. We focus on how organizations broadly conceived (for-profit firms, not-for-profit firms, social enterprises) and networks contribute to system resilience. Strategy scholars with different disciplinary backgrounds will be invited to take up the “grand challenge” of studying how organizations and networks can respond to adverse natural or social events (e.g., pandemics, natural disasters, recessions, migrations).

The program will feature a mix of panel and paper presentations (selected through the invitation of established scholars working on resilience) and structured interactions with practitioners presenting cases of successful business reactions to adverse events.
